Sunday 29th Jan saw 17 green vested Chasers travel slightly further than usual in the Borders XC series, to Peebles. The penultimate round, race six out of seven, this time hosted by Moorfoot runners starts and ends at the picturesque Haylodge Park. It was a beautiful frosty morning which some might say were perfect conditions for the challenge of cross country racing. You certainly needed to be wrapped up warm but most of the 299 runners, young and not so young stripped down to T shirts and shorts on the start line in preparation for the mud fest!

The Junior race was won by Yousaf Khursheed from Gala Harriers in 8.10 who put in another very strong performance. Oscar Onley not far behind him and the first Chaser home crossed the line in 8.37. Oliver Stewart came in at 9.47 [2nd in category] and Kyle Taylor the third Chaser home in 10.02 with Daniel Ross right behind him in 10.03. The youngest boys of the group Zico Field and Harrris Ross finished in 10.45 and 11.28, both putting in great performances. Flying the flag for Chasers Junior Girls Isla Taylor and Keira McGregor both ran brilliantly finishing in 11.51 and 12.35 respectively.

Eight Juniors home and safely accounted for now had the chance to watch the Adults race, a somewhat longer route which incorporates ‘Heart Attack Hill’ as its fondly known locally! First home for Chasers was Stevie Ross in 33.37 followed by Euan McGregor in 35.03, Tilly Fuller in 37.48 and Wanda Field in 37.58. Tracey McCann who was 4th in category finished in 38.29 and Leeann Ross crossed the line in 39.26. Nadine Moore finished in 41.26, Amanda Turner in 47.02 and Nichola Stewart after a wee tumble close to home in 47.13.

Another wonderful Borders XC round, well organised, tough but beautiful surroundings with plenty of mud, lovely river paths, hills and forest trails. Many thanks to Moorfoot Runners for laying on such a great race and well done the marshals and helpers for their support ensuring a safe run for all.
